A Curriculum for Working Adults
In the Medaille ACCELerated Learning Program, education
for working adults harmonizes both their personal and professional
lives so that the educational experience will be a lasting source
of personal growth, professional renewal, and career advancement.
Learning in the ACCELerated Learning Program builds upon
the experiences each student brings into the classroom. Classes
are taught by working professionals with advanced degrees who possess
current experience in the subject area of the courses they teach.
Listed below is a sample of the ACCELerated Learning Program
courses with brief descriptions.
Management, Skills and Application
In this course the student will gain an understanding of the principles
and methods used in managing and operating organizations. Specific
focus is placed on the application of management principles to realistic
situations managers encounter, offering considerable insights into
the challenges and opportunities confronting today's manager. Selected
readings and cases will raise fundamental issues and provide practical
illustrations of the meaning of the conceptual material discussed
in class. This course is designed to enable the student to think
as a manager and to provide the basic information needed to be successful
in that role.
Legal Environment of Business
A comprehensive look at the legal environment that affects modern
business. Concepts from law and ethics are applied to actual business
situations, which afford the student an opportunity to examine not
only legal concepts but also the values, morals, and ethical codes
associated with the business environment. Although the American
corporation is of principal interest, international law and business
practices also will be discussed. Extensive use of case studies
will enable the student to integrate legal concepts with practical
business applications.
Negotiation and Dispute Resolution
A study of the range of effective negotiations and dispute resolution
practices. The student will develop an awareness of behavior in
negotiation and of the effect or response that his or her communication
has upon others. This study afford the student an opportunity to
cultivate and apply a special expertise in negotiations and dispute
resolutions within such professional fields as human resource management
and labor relations.
Global Business Perspectives
An inquiry into the internationalization process and multinational
management. Using case studies, the student will investigate the
management practices of a variety of firms, located in the United
States and elsewhere, that have entered the increasingly competitive
global marketplace when their home market perspective is no longer
adequate.
